My son got stung at low tide in Cornwall some years back and it was a long walk carrying him back.
Wear those rubber boots you can buy for £8-£10 now when we are out there.

Re: Jellyfish
Worse than any of these stories was week I was swimming off the Gold Coast in Oz. I got attacked by a Great White. After struggling and at least a dozen deep bites….

It bled to death.

I only discovered that Weevers/Weeverfish even existsed a couple of years ago, when my wife cousin stepped on one in Normandy, while the tide was out. And my little boy stepped on one last summer in Portugal. Both were brave when it happened, but I could tell it hurt like fuck.

Sneaky little bastards; impossible to avoid, so it's just the unlucky lottery. At least with jellyfish, you have a chance to see them and give them a swerve. Weevers are as good as invisible.

Re: Jellyfish
Went to Wales on a stag weekend for the eldest boy and the landlord in the boozer we stayed in (which was near the beach) warned us about the jellyfish and mentioned that there hadn't ,until recently, been a word for jellyfish in the Welsh language..Fish is 'pysgod' and jellyfish is 'Pysgod wibbly wobbly' He went on to say that oven is 'Poppity'and microwave oven is 'Poppity ping' ...strange breed the Welsh.

Oh I think the second (and last) album Spilt Milk is a masterpiece, one of my favourites. The weird thing is their genius guitarist Jason Falkner had already quit the band and they hired session players who they instructed to basically recreate his guitar parts - it results in a sound that is kind of artificial and too measured and cynical but that's kind of what they were about anyway so it works.

Re: Jellyfish
remember getting done by either one of these or a weaver fish after a great surf session. listened to pearl jam on the drive home and the pain in my leg turned into a bizarre euphoric serenity as black kicked in.

had a massive steak on getting home. fully recommend it.

Given the choice, I would choose a hit from a Portuguese man o' war over a box jelly any day.

Re: Jellyfish
Absolute cunts these things - the sea version of cunts with wings (wasps) Was stung in Spain many years ago, obviously not a venomous one but had around 5 lines on my leg about 10 inches long and it stung like fuck. Luckily only lasted around 24 hours but going out on the piss was an effort as it stug like fuck when walking

Re: Jellyfish
Swiss: sorry to be pedantic but a Portugese Man of War isn't a jellyfish. It's a colonial organism made up of lots of interdependent tiny creatures. As for 100 miles, more like 100 feet.

Re: Jellyfish
Some people will find any excuse to urinate on themselves. That's an urban myth btw and doesn't relieve the sting.

Nasty things.
